Tie Dye and Politics

Tie dye is an art form that has long been associated with a personal expression and a belief in the power of peace, love, and solidarity. Tie dye has been a sort of uniform for those who uphold these values and resist authoritarianism, bullying, and threats to our freedoms.

That being said, if you support the current fascist organization, please do not buy my art.

THE ROAMER STORY

Hi! I’m Dax! I have been interested in tie dyeing for a long time and have long admired the intricate scenes I’ve seen other artists create. I started to tie dye as a hobby, while living in my trailer. Not the most practical of hobbies to have buckets of ice and melted ice in a tiny space - with 3 dogs! But I was hooked! I loved playing with new folds, colors, and designs and made as much as I could for my friends.

This hobby went into overdrive when I had a mountain bike crash and was forced into recovery mode for several months. Tie dye became my outlet and helped keep my sanity. Fortunately, by this time I had moved into a house in St George, UT. I accumulated more dyes, more tools, and more knowledge. On a whim I signed up to vend at a local event and focused on creating a more inclusive catalog.

I thoroughly enjoy not just the act of creating, but also of meeting people at events. Hearing about their likes and dislikes - and maybe most of all seeing the joy in people when they find that one of a kind piece that speaks to them.

I like to make styles that are “wearable”. Meaning it is not just your favorite concert shirt. I want you to shine in your unique piece at the office, at a family gathering, the crag, or any where else your life may take you.

Finally I’ve given in and created this site to make my designs more accessible outside of local markets. I may be slow to upload products as this seems like a massive undertaking, but always feel free to contact me if there’s something you are looking for.

My Values

I am not just a small business, I support small and local businesses in every aspect of my life. When I travel I always make sure to give back to the local economies of the places I visit. I have been “weening” myself off Amazon for the past few years, but I have not bought anything from them since January of 2025. I also avoid other big box stores. If you see a big box label, chances are they have either been sitting in my closet for a while before I decided to dye it - or it was thrifted.

I focus on sourcing blanks from small businesses, as well as dyes and supplies. I am not perfect about this, but I try to improve and find better ways to source products and supplies every day.
